A trail camera is a surveillance camera with a motion sensor that works entirely independently of the mains. The advantages of trail cameras are their compact size, their resistance to knocks and the long running time of their batteries. Trail cameras fall into two types: transmitting cameras and recording (non-transmitting) cameras.
A transmitting trail camera sends photo and video material to one or more email addresses or mobile numbers set by the user, or to a combination of the two. A recording trail camera cannot send photos or videos. It stores the photos and videos on a memory card, from which the images can be viewed later. A recording trail camera is a good, affordable option for watching wildlife and for any use where you do not need the images immediately.
Both camera types need a separately sold memory card and a power source (batteries, a rechargeable pack or mains power) in order to work. For a transmitting camera you also need a data subscription opened with a mobile operator.
