Your choice of body material largely determines a fly's buoyancy, profile and durability. Tinsels and ribbing do not only reinforce the body, they also add the vital flash and segmentation. Chenilles and fritz materials, in turn, are indispensable when you want to tie bulky, water-pushing bodies quickly, for Woolly Buggers or leeches for example. Natural materials such as biots and quill bodies give unbeatable realism to insect imitations.
